The Netherlands is situated in northwest Europe, sharing international borders with Belgium to the south, and Germany to the east. To the west and north of the Netherlands is the North Sea. The capital city of the Netherlands is Amsterdam in North Holland and the seat of government is The Hague in South Holland. The Netherlands are very flat, and about 27% of the land area lies below sea level, where 60% of the population live. The term 'Dutch' is commonly used to refer to most things relating to the Netherlands and Holland. Most tourists visiting the Netherlands begin and end their holidays in North Holland, mainly around Amsterdam. The coast boasts one of the most beautiful beaches on the North Sea, which attracts millions of visitors a year.
