Makarska is a very popular tourist destination on the Dalmatian Coast in Croatia. It is blessed with a well protected harbour, historic old town and long beach which curves around Donja Luka bay. The stretch of coastline, with it's coves, beaches and hotels, is known as the Makarska Riviera, and is very popular with eastern and central Europeans during the summer months. Makarska is also one of the stops that many small cruise and sailing companies make while island hopping along the Adriatic.
At the southern end of Donja Luka is Sv Petar headland, which separates the beach from the Old Town and harbour. On the headland are a number of sights, like Svjetionik Sv Petar (St Peter's Lighthouse), the 15th century and Statue of St Peter on the northern tip giving a great view over Makarska bay and cape Osejava.
