Makarska from Statue of St Peter in Evening - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT

An evening picture showing the view back over Makarska and the bay taken from the statue to St Peter (Sv. Petar) near the entrance to Makraska harbour. This is the time when many sailing yachts and cruise boats come into port for the evening as part of an island / town hopping sailing cruise down the Croatian coastline. Image taken September 2011.

Makarska from Statue of St Peter in Evening - FURTHER INFORMATION

Makarska from Statue of St Peter in Evening - Makarska visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Makarska from Statue of St Peter in Evening' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Split-Dalmatia County.

The light always changes one's perception of Makarska and the bay in which it lies. In the evening the mountains behind come alive with warmer oranges and reds as the sun sets. Sv Petar statue is on a prominent viewpoint on Sv. Petar peninsula and a popular sight for visitors.

Sv Petar is also the name given to the peninsula on which the statue stands. This peninsula, which juts out from the eastern end of the bay separating Makarska bay from Donja Luka. On it are various sights and attractions including a 14th century Sv. Petar Chapel and 19th century Sv. Petar Lighthouse (Svjetionik). It has several walking paths both through the woodland covering the penisula and along the rocky shore along the southern edge. The rocks here are quite secluded and used by naturalists for sunbathing.

From the Sv Petar Statue viewpoint you get a clear view of Makarska and the surrounding villages, which occupy a narrow stretch of habitable land between the Adriatic coastline and Biokovo Mountains. On the far side of the bay is Osejava, another hill with various walking and cycling paths and a couple of climbing routes.
