The statue in the middle of this small gardens by Split Harbour caught my eye, so I took this virtual tour. Picture taken September 2011.

This small park is found on the west side of Split Harbour at the junction of Setaliste Ivana Mestrovica and Sustipanski Put and Drazanac in Split, close to the main Split Marina and Hotel Jardan. Within the square is a memorial statue to those whose died during the 1991-95 Homeland War (Domovinski rat), or Croatian War of Independence.

The statue is called Zastava - Jedro (Flag of Sails) and it was created by Jozo Vrdoljak in 2008 to be placed within the park along the south-west facade of the former Banate building. The inscription on it is a collection of verse from the song Over the Croatian star (Fallen Croatian defenders) by Mirko Kovacevicreads and reads:

SPAVAJTE SPOKOJNO… DOMOVINSKOM GRUDOM POKRITI,
SLOBODNA HRVATSKA ČUVA VAŠ SAN,
A LJUBAV NAŠA ZAUVIJEK ŠTITI VAS OD MRAKA I ZABORAVA.
OD VAŠIH ŽIVOTA I KRVI PROLIVENE ZVIJEZDE SU NAD HRVATSKOM UPALJENE.

This park is near the southeast corner of the Marjan Hill peninsula. Nearby are Jezinac Beach, Zvoncac Beach and marina, Crikvine Kastelet, Kastelet Mestrovic - Holy Cross Chapel and Mestrovic Gallery sights and attractions.

Flight: Split International Airport found 20km west of Split, transfer by either taxi or bus.
Ferry: Regular ferries from Dubrovnik, Korcula, Mljet, Pescara, Rijeka, Vis, Hvar, Spetare (Brač), Stari Grad, Drvenik and Ancona in Italy.
Road: Split lies on the 8 coastal road, about 30km north of Omiš and 60km north of Makarska. It is 150km south of Zadar.
