The Hoover Dam is one of the main tourist attractions near to Las Vegas and Boulder City. Built in the 1930's, it remains one of the wonders of the modern world. Construction of the dam took 6 years to build in the 1930's to a cost then of around $50M and employed over 5,000 workers at it's peak.
Dam construction blocked water flow on the Colorado and Virgin river, resulting the in the gradual formation of Lake Mead, which at it's fullest extends over 112 miles behind the dam. Today the lake is very low, in Drought levels and descending towards critical levels at times.
