Hastings Castle - FURTHER INFORMATION
Hastings Castle - Hastings visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Hastings Castle' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from East Sussex.
Hastings Castle is a popular, paid tourist attractions in Hastings. The castle is in ruins having suffered from partial collapse after storms in 1287, French raids in the 14th century, abolition of the monasteries by Henry VIII and bombing raids in WWII.
What remains are the walls of various buildings and part of St Mary's Chapel. These date from the time of the Norman invasion in 1066 when William ordered the building of this stone castle to replace his former motte and bailey castle on the site after the Battle of Hastings at Battle. At that time he also built castles at Pevensey and Dover.
