Google Map View over Kyle of LochalshPhotographer Description of View over Kyle of LochalshThis panoramic photograph was an exercise in dodging rain showers which were coming from the north over Skye in waves. The hillside behind Kyle is very mossy, boggy and surprisingly hard to scramble up... but worth it. Having taken this panorama it was a case of racing the rain back down the hill.View over Kyle of Lochalsh - Further InformationPanorama from the hills behind Kyle of Lochalsh with a view over the town and over Loch Alsh to the Isle of Skye. In this panoramic photograph the town of Kyle and its port lies at the bottom of the hill. There are several small islands in Loch Alsh and glass bottom boat trips are available on the Loch.On the other side of Loch Alsh, on Skye, is the small town of Kyleakin. You can also clearly see the Skye Bridge which links the Isles of Skye to the Scottish mainland. Beyond the village, before the bridge, is a rise in the land. At the top of this is the Plock Viewpoint of Kyle, which is another spot that offers panoramic views of the area, and from which more of Skye is visible. Kyle is the main town with most of the amenities for the area including doctor, dentist, swimming pool and gym, school and large supermarket. The tourist information office is in the car park overlooking the slipway, near the railway station. The village evolved with the arrival of the railway in the 1920s. Previously, Kyleakin was the main village dating back in maps by Blackadder to the 1780s. Travel and Getting There Comments and Reviews.
