Google Map QuiraingQuiraingPanorama showing the Quiraing, a popular climbing destination on the Trotternish peninsula north of Portree on the Isle of Skye. This view of the Quiraing was taken from near the A855 a little north of Staffin and Staffin Beach. In this panoramic photograph the the peaks of Mell na Suiramach (543m) and Sgurr Mor (492m) rise beyond Loch Langaig in the foreground. The Quiraing is a long ridge of sheer, vertical cliffs offering challenging ascents to climbers and mountaineers of all abilities. Nearby in Staffin, training courses offer all aspects of hill climbing knowledge including safety, weather awareness and orienteering. The Quiraing has very many access points for climbing and, for those less inclined to expending energy, it offers as many variances in photographic opportunity. The play of light in the crags, crevices and corries can be spectacular. To the south of this area, the Trotternish ridge ends at the "Old Man Of Storr", a craggy cliff with a jutting spur stack of rock almost the same height. This is a magnet for climbers and brings to an end an area which offers something for every level of fitness and interest in exploring the outdoors. Travel and Getting There: Comments and Reviews.
