The outdoor salt museum near the shore of Lake Crosbie consists of a huge pile of salt and some rusted machinery that had been used during commercial salt harvesting operating at the Pink Lakes between 1916 and 1979.

Murray Sunset National Park is the second largest park in Victoria, covering some 633,000 hectares. Part of the park is covered by a number of salt lakes, known as the Pink Lakes as the waters are turned pink by carotene secreted by algae in the spring. During the summer months the lakes dry out and, between 1916 and 1979, salt was harvested from the lakes and transported to Linga.

Next to Lake Crosbie are the remains of this industry, piles of salt and rusting machinery. At it's peak ten thousand tons of salt was harvested from here and nearby Lake Becking and Lake Kenyon.
