Tybee Island Beach runs the entire length of Tybee Island in Georgia, making the beach just over 3 miles long. Backed by sand dunes covered with sea-oat, the beach is ideal for sunbathing, relaxing and water sports in the Atlantic Ocean. The beach is divided into North Beach and South Beach.
A low lying barrier island is named after salt as 'duh bee' is 'salt' in Euchee Indian. Today, Tybee Island, and the beach, are a major holiday resort in the area, lined with various hotels, motels, holiday apartments and flats. Tybee Island has not only the beach, but also forts, museums and a great old lighthouse in addition to the various beach restaurants and bars.
Tybee Island Beach is also a haven for nature, and locals and visitors alike are drawn to the beach to see the sea turtles and watch for dolphins. Also available are various water sports, sea kayaking and more.
Several companies specialize in offering Tybee Beach vacation rentals, suitable for all budgets, on a beach that attracts movie stars as well as regular Americans.
