In 1931 the village Bernau-Dorf built a cattle hut with mountain inn and shepherd accommodation above the small creek Krunkelbach to keep cattle on mountain pastures during the summer months. The Krunkelbachhuette is located 1294 metres above sealevel a short distance south-east of the mountain Herzogenhorn.

The original building burned down on 30-Apr-1945 but was rebuilt and the current building was completed in 1954.

Until today there are herds of cattle on the pastures around the Krunkelbachhuette with an Inn for hikers in summer and skiers in winter.
