The Cappella del Sacramento is a chapel within Chiesa San Marco (Church of San Marco) on San Marco Square in Florence. It is decorated in ornate frescoes and by Poccetti and canvasses painted by Santi di Tito, Passignano and Empoli.
San Marcos church itself was first established by Silvestrine monks in 1299. In 1436 Pope Eugene IV in 1436 transferred the church and associated convent to Dominicans of Fiesole. This was the same year he consecrated Florence Cathedral. The convent now houses the San Marco Museum, a popular tourist attraction in Florence.
Several important 15th century figures lived in San Marco, including Fra Angelico, Fra Bartolomeo, St. Anthony, Cosimo the Elder and fra Girolamo Savonarola, who preached against the Catholic church and the Pope, predicted the end of the world and was hanged and burnt by the church in Piazza della Signoria.
