The Landeszeughaus, or Armoury, is one of the top attractions in Graz. Formally known as the Armoury of the State of Styria, it containsthe largest collections of armour, helmets, edged weapons, guns and pistols on earth. The armoury covers four floors, laid out in extensive displays.

The armour and weapons spans the 15th to 18th centuries, when Styria was often faced with hostile Ottoman and Hungarian forces. The region responded by developing and equipping their own units, with the weapons stored centrally at the armoury. The Landeszeughaus armour, commonly called the 'Landschaftliche Zeughaus', was built in 1642-1647. The collection has continued to grow over the last 400 years, becoming the largest on earth.

Most of the armour and weapons stored here were produced by Styrian, Carinthian and Upper Austrian workshops. Some of the equipment was purchased from the major German armourers in Augsburg, Nuremberg and Suhl. Throughout the collection descriptive plaques give details of specific items.

An entrance fee applies to enter the museum, and visitors should give themselves between 1-2 hours to view the rooms.
