Chatsworth House is the seat of the Dukes of Devonshire, home to the Cavendish family, since Bess of Hardwick settled at Chatsworth in 1549. The house stands beside the River Derwent in the Peak District in Derbyshire, about 4miles east of Bakewell, close to Edensor Village.
Chatsworth House stands in extensive parkland and the Chatsworth Gardens are among the most famous gardens in England. It is a very popular tourist attraction in the Peak District containing a priceless collection of art. The family also owned Hardwick Hall but that was transferred to the National Trust in lieu of inheritance tax.
