Sandy Beach Park - FURTHER INFORMATION
Sandy Beach Park - Oahu visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Sandy Beach Park' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Hawaii.
Sandy Beach Park is on the southern coast of Oahu in Hawaii between Hanauma Bay and Makapu'u Point. This is a very popular body boarding and surfing beach, but at times of high surf has strong rip tides and a dangerous shore break which has caused fatalities in the past, especially around Keawaakio Cove. During low tides there are dangerous lava rocks which can protrude the surface.
Those warnings in mind, Sandy Beach can be good for swimming when the surf is calm. The beach has lifeguards, and within the park are picnic areas, restrooms, showers and public phones.
Other nearby points of interest include the Halona Blowhole, Kaioko Beach (Queen's Beach) and a lookout to Lanai Island.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
Sandy Beach Park is next off Hwy 72 by Koko Crater, about 2 miles east of Hanauma Bay (13 miles east of Waikiki), and 2 miles west of Makapu'u Point.
