C-721 : Ciutadella to Mao Road

There was no reason to take this panorama in Menorca except to celebrate the surroundings. The topography of Menorca is very varied from sandy beaches to rugged cliffs. The interior of the island has much to offer as well, as this image shows.

The C-271 is the only major road that links Ciutadella (Ciudadella) on the Western end of Menorca to Mao (Mahon) on the East coast. As a result the road is called Carretera de Ciutadella-Maóor Carretera de Maó-Ciutadella for much of it's length depending on the direction you are traveling. Other derivations of the towns, like Mahon or Ciudadella may also be used in the road name.

Whatever you want to call it (and the C-271 is the easiest) the road winds around, up and down some impressive hills passing some glorious scenery en route. This panorama was taken just 3km from Ferreries near a junction where the road 'Cami de Tramuntana' leaves the C-271 heading north to the Castell de Santa Agueda and the small settlement of Binidalfa.

Car Hire in Menorca

This is a good time to mention car hire in Menorca. Car hire in Menorca is very simple. Naturally, all the major international car hire companies like Avis, Hertz and Sixt are well represented at every major arrival point on Menorca. However, it is well worth investigating one of the numerous local, small and independant car hire companies that can be found in either Maó or Ciutadella. These car hire companies tend to be cheaper, and will certainly have more time to talk about what to see on Menorca while you holiday there. Wherever you hire you car from while you visit Menorca, you will not be disappointed by the scenary, towns and ruins that you discover touring around the small island.

The towns the Carretera de Ciutadella-Maó passes through on leaving Ciutadella (and the distance in km) before arriving in Mahon are: Ferreries (17km), Es Mercadail (25km) and Alaior (31km). Maó (Mahon) is about 40km from Cuitadella.
