It is really famous for the Ghirardelli Chocolate Company, seen on the southeast corner of the square in this panorama, beyond the fountain.Ghirardelli Square - Further InformationReopened in 2008, Ghirardelli Square has undergone a transformation. Domingo Ghirardelli bought the entire square in 1893 to base the headquarters of the family chocolate, mustard and cocoa manufacturing business. However, the Ghirardelli Chocolate Company was sold in the 1960's to the Golden Grain Macaroni Company who moved HQ elsewhere. Local man, William Roth, bought the entire square in 1962, converted the historic brick buildings into a shopping mall of quality specialty shops and restaurants, showcasing the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop as it's centerpiece. In 2007-08, the Square was again gutted and these specialty shops have been replaced with franchise outlets and a new private residential complex. The Chocolate shop remains, as does their legendary hot fudge sundae.Address: Ghirardelli Square Management Office 900 North Point Street, Suite E100 San Francisco, CA 94109 Travel Directions and Getting There: Cable Car: Fisherman's Wharf Bus: North Point St & Larkin St (10, 20, 30, 47, 91) Comments and Reviews.
