This panorama was taken from one of the lookouts of Grand Canyon Village. The picture was taken from a viewpoint near to Hopi House and El Tovar Hotel in the village. The Grand Canyon Village lies close to the South Entrance of the Grand Canyon National Park. It stands at a height of 2,100m, about 1,500m above the Colorado River and the canyon base. All the hotels within the park are found within the Grand Canyon Village. The village also has the Market Plaza, the only store within the park for campers, a medical clinic, the Shrine of the Ages, Mather Campground and the Park Headquarters.Built on the edge of the Grand Canyon, the walkway along the northern edge of the village gives good views over the beginning of the Bright Angel Trail (2091). The trail descends sharply down to Indian Garden (1146m) and then continues along to Plateau Point (1177m) before descending again to the depths of the Colorado River.
The free park buses depart regularly from Grand Canyon Village to various lookout points within the park. The road west of the village is only accessible by bus which proceeds to Hopi Point, Mohave Point and along Hermit Road to Hermits Rest and the Hermit Trailhead. The South Rim's South Entrance to Grand Canyon National Park is about 55 miles north of Williams on the 64 and 180, and 80 miles from Flagstaff on the 180.
